Flyers-Devils Second Round Preview

2023-07-13

We go again! The players have had no rest but will be raring to go when they lace up their skates and get down to business on Friday night as they travel to Newark to take on the Devils.

Confidence is high after taking out the Islanders but everyone knows that this will be a tough match-up against the Presidents Trophy winners. We take a look at the tale of the tape and keys to the series ...

Key to the series

- Special teams --- The Flyers PP was on fire in the first round and the team will look to continue the momentum against the Devils. In contrast, the Devils struggled mightily and have the 7th best record of the 8 teams remaining. How the teams perform in round 2 will go a long way to deciding the Metro champion.

Players to watch

Brayden Point - Point was the key offseason acquisition for the Devils and he certainly proved his worth in the first round, leading the team in points (9) and +- (7). However, he racked up over 140 mins over the 6 games - those are huge totals and may be a key factor in Point's energy levels through the Philly series.

Nico Hishier - Nico leads the Flyers forwards group as their No.1 pivot and put up 7 points in the first round. He plays 2nd PP and leads the time in shorthanded time on ice. He will be a key factor and will look to match-up against Point.
