Bruce Boudreau is the new head coach of the LA Kings

2015-09-17

Wow ! Looks like its groundhog day all over again! And thats a good thing here! After signing their new AHL coach Phil Housley yesterday now its Bruce Boudreau that comes in as the new NHL bench boss of the LA Kings.

Same spot, almost same time, the same 3 amigos: GM Lemyre-Lucky Luc Robitaille-Super Advisor Pat Brisson sitting at the same table drinking coffee in the art deco Santa Monica beach front coffee shop but this time with one of the most coveted, free agent coach available this year, Bruce Boudreau.  There must be something in the water like Coleman Hell sings in the catchy song 2 heads.  Its a love affair here for Boudreau and the LA Kings.  No offense to Dave Tippett but we simply got the best man.

Boudreau was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1975 after winning the Memorial Cup but he never really develloped into a NHL player because of his size but he played for a couple of all star teams in the minors and won some scoring championships. He also played in the movie Slapshot so the guy had some inspirations and aspirations.

While coaching in the AHL, his Hershey Bears won the 2006 AHL Calder Cup championship. The Bears made it all the way back to the Calder Cup finals under Coach Boudreau again in 2007, ultimately falling to the Hamilton Bulldogs.

Boudreau was named interim head coach of the NHL's Washington Capitals on November 22, 2007, and later their permanent coach on December 26. He compiled a 37–17–7 rookie coaching record with a team that was 6–14–1 when he inherited it. Under Boudreau's leadership, the 2007–08 Capitals won their first Southeast Division title in seven years and made the playoffs for the first time in five years. He also won the Jack Adams Award as the NHL's best coach in 2008.

Boudreau is known for his talkative personality, earning him the nickname "Gabby." In 2009, he released his memoir, Gabby: Confessions of a Hockey Lifer.

In conclusion, 2 great signings for the Kings organization in 2 days. After signing their 2 rookies coming up from the system : Shayne Gostisbehere and Brock McGinn later on today, the Kings fans are hoping that wind of change will carry on into the free agency period.  The Kings should have around 15 million available after resigning RFA Chris Tanev.
