Flames Move On 2023-04-05 On Friday, March 31, after a dismal loss to the Ottawa Senators, GM Stephen had enough of the status quo. After all the moves that have been made to improve the team, the Feared Queen of Cowboys of the South was called in to assist in dealing with the Viking of Alberta. The message was simple. The King of Viking was thanked for his hard work by GM Stephen and the organization however it was time to move on. The Flames immediately hired Andrew Brunette to take over as the bench boss. Brunette brings the ability to get the best out of his players and has a high offensive IQ. His time in the EHE may be limited but in the NHL he took the Florida Panthers to the playoffs when he took over from John Queenville and this past season has proved his worth with the New Jersey Devils. He also served time with the Minnesota Wild as Assistant General Manager and has played over 1100 games in the NHL. The players were shocked initially but came out the following game and secured a 2-1 win against the Vegas Golden Knights. Tonight Brunette and the Flames face the Florida Panthers in an effort to keep themselves in the playoff hunt. At the time of this press release Brunette or GM Stephen were available for comment. Sutter was quoted "it's tough to be let go mid-season, but with Beth Dutton, it was even tougher, she has high standards and doesn't put up with BS. So home to Viking, I go"
