2023-01-28This past off season GM Stephen went into the 2022 EHE Entry Draft with very few picks. So he had to be selective on his pick and with the 114th pick, GM Stephen had a few options but a character player came out on top and he selected forward Arshdeep Bains.
So who is Bains?
Bains hails from Surrey, British Columbia. At first Bains loved the game of hockey but never was serious about it. At the young age of 13/14 he realized he could make the WHL. Things didn’t come easy but he did eventually catch the eyes of the Red Deer Rebels. His first season saw him score a low number of point’s however as the seasons went by his point totals increased each year. In his final year he was dominant and put up 43 goals and 112 points in 68 games. As a result Bains became the first South Asian decent to lead the WHL in scoring.
As his former Rebels coach put it, “Bains is so unique, slippery and he is high quality on and off the ice. He doesn’t have one thing about him. He is a real good person, humble, and well behaved. He cares about everyone and is a team first guy.”
Hearing those comments GM Stephen had this to say, “Seeing how he improved every year and never giving up. It was a no brainer to select him. He is the type of player that we want on our team, someone who demonstrates a never give up attitude and someone who will help continue to help build a quality hard working team.”
Wranglers Head Coach Luke Richardson had this to say, “Arshdeep has the skills, attitude and heart to compete in the league and when he joins the organization he’ll make an impact. We look forward to seeing this young man continue to grow and develop.”
