Locker Day Clean Out

2022-07-12

Well, another season in the EHE has come to an end for both the Calgary Flames and Stockton Heat. The Heat put up a fight to extend their season in a tight series but lost to a determined Bakersfield Condors team. Even though Coach Richardson and the team put up their best season with 87 points, there will be some changes to the roster, but most of the team will return, which should help for an even more exciting and successful next season.

The Calgary Flames also had their best season to date since the inception of the EHE, with a 94-point season. There were some big changes as the season went along however changes that will be the basis of a strong core of players moving forward.  Sadly, the Flames could not extend their series with the Arizona Coyotes to a game 7 losing 4-2. The series was close with 2 games going to overtime.  Now that the locker rooms have been cleared out, the player’s meetings are completed, and the lights are turned out at the Saddledome. The Flames look towards the off-season and beyond.

Prior to heading back to the farm, Daryl Sutter shared his thoughts, “The team really grew this past season, and the players all shared they will come back even hungrier.  Binnington what a beast, he kept us in the series”.

So what is next? Well, GM Steve didn’t say much other than he is going to get down to business to look at trade options and prepare for the draft, along with relocating the Heat to Calgary. Rumor has it that long-time Flame Tyler Bertuzzi may be available, but he won’t be moved for just anybody. Bertuzzi is an RFA and rumor has that GM Steve will look at all options with him if it will make the team better now and in the future.

So let a busy off-season begin for GM Steve.
