Flames return home

2022-07-02

With the excitement of the Calgary Stampede growing and starting up later this coming week, the Calgary Flames return home tonight down 2-0 in the series.

Coach Sutter had this to say, “In our eyes, we could easily be up 2-0. In our first game, we played well enough to win and the second game was an overtime loss. The team kept battling and Binnington has given us a chance to win, we just need to tighten up defensively and some guys need to dig deeper and get the puck on net.”

Flames players echoed a similar message we will thrive off the energy the fans will have for us in our first playoff game in years. Add in the anticipation of feverish energy for the Stampede excitement, the Saddledome and surrounding grounds will be our safe haven. The Red Mile is already showing signs of life with the bars preparing for a busy few weeks ahead.

One owner indicated he had to hire extra staff above what he normally would have because of the Flames making the playoffs and with the Stampede starting up next Thursday with sneak a peek. Another business indicated this is much needed for us as it will help us turn a profit for the first time in years due to Covid.

Even though being severely understaffed local hospitals are embracing the perfect storm with both the Stampede and Flames playoff run, and are preparing to handle the influx of stupidity due to the provincial government allowing bars to start serving at 8 am. Yeee-Haaaaw.

As for tonight’s game, Sutter indicated he made some minor changes to the lineup that hopefully give a little more balance on all 4 lines. An attempt was made to speak with the players ahead of tonight’s important game 3 however they all elected to focus on tonight instead of meeting with the media.
