Home Stretch

2022-05-13

With 20 games remaining in the season and 75 points the Calgary Flames have now improved from last season. Last year the Flames finished with 74 points and a 26-39-4-5 record.

Currently the Flames have a 28-22-3-5 record and 75 points and find themselves in second place in the pacific division and 5 points behind the red hot Vegas Golden Knights.

When GM Steve was asked about what his plans are for the upcoming trade deadline in 7 days.

He had this to say.

“Throughout the season we stayed active to improve the team while also still looking to build for the future runs. I got ahead of the deadline by making a big move to help the team now and in the future by bringing in Laine and Klingberg.

I feel that allowed the team to be a deeper both on the offensive and defensive side. As for the deadline I don’t see us much if at all. If someone brought something to my attention that could help the Flames or the Heat I would look at it”.

Speaking of the Heat, how about them. Second in the Pacific as well. Luke Richardson in his first season with the Heat has really helped make a difference in developing the kids where they are pushing for a playoff spot. We are hoping that Shane Pinto can recover in time for the playoffs and if he does and we qualify that will be like adding a player at the deadline.”

“As for the stretch drive, we should get both  Bertuzzi and Klingberg back from injury this week. Both will play an big role in the Flames making a strong push down the stretch. Seeing the strong competition in the Pacific and the West overall, I suspect it will take between 95 and 100 points to get into the post season.”
