New GM Tang aims to put his own stamp on the Stars 2022-03-30 Since taking over the reigns of GM earlier this season, Tang has completed 4 trades, involving 11 players and 7 picks and may not be done yet. Since the first trade the Dallas Stars are 8-2-2 so things seem to be trending in the right direction. Trade 1 Dallas Recieves: Kasperi Kapanen, F Jack McBain, C Toronto's 2022 3rd rd pick New York Rangers Recieve: Cam Atkinson, F This trade was 2 fold. We wanted to shore up our prospect pipeline a little bit as there was not much there when we took over, as well as provide a bit more flexibility going forward the next couple years. We appreciated what Atkinson has done has a Star, putting up 168 points the last two years but we felt this was a good time to move on from him. The move also allowed us to bring Boone Jenner up to a top 6 roll which he has thrived in before. Jenner since eelvated has 4 Goals and 2 Assists.(Atkinson 4 Assists.) Trade 2 Dallas Recieves: TJ Brodie, D Tampa Recieves Toronto's 2022 3rd rd pick Washington's 2022 4th rd pick Boston's 2022 4th rd pick This deal was about shoring up our defensive game. We love his high DEF rating and think that he will be a good addition to our bottom 6. In the past he has shown the ability to score, but with our blueliners we acquired him more for his defensive ability. We had a glut of 4th rd picks so this really ended up a no brainer for us. Trade 3 Dallas Recieves: Nick Bonino, C Chicago Recieves: Joakim Nordstrom, F Arizona's 2022 4th rd pick Dallas' 2023 4th rd pick Bonino was acquired soley for his defensive accumen. He is immediately our highest rated DEF forward and that is one area that we think we can shore up. He is also a guy that can provide some secondary scoring as well. Coming into the trade he was good for 21 points in 14 minutes of ice time a game and has setteled in nicely here with an assist in his first game and contributing nicely on the PK. Trade 4 Dallas Recieves: Victor Hedman, D New York Rangers Recieve: Egor Sharangovich, F Ryan Graves, D Ethan Del Mastro, D Dylan Garand, G Edmontons 2023 5th rd pick This is the big one. We have been trying to shoot for a big fish fo a couple weeks now and finally found the right dance partner. We have rebuffed many teams attempts to acquire Egor and Graves, but when a guy like Hedman becomes available, he makes it worth it. Pairing up the perennial Norris canidate with our captain Roman Josi is sure to bode well for the rest of the year and maybe even the future as we still have a franchise tag to give out. We were happy to not have to break up our top 6 or move any 1st rd picks to secure Hedman. We are hoping that these moves help keep us at the top of the league and the conference as well as a deep run in the playoffs.
