*GM Knedel steps up to the mic for an unexpected press conference*

“After a great 5 years with this organization, we have decided to part ways with John and move in a new direction with the team. We have a great group here and are looking to compete and as of late the results haven’t been where they should be or were at during the beginning of the season.”

“It wasn’t an easy decision but the front office felt that we needed to make a change and John agreed and would like to explore his options elsewhere (rumor has it there’s an offer on the table from ESPN)”

This comes as a shock as Tortorella has been with the Devils organization throughout the ups and downs. Currently the Devils are tied for 6th in the Metropolitan at 10-9-1. There were rumblings that the two would part ways at the end of the season when Tortorella’s contract was up but it comes as a shock this came 20 games into the 21-22 season.

When asked why the change Knedel had this to say “Our team is moving in an offensive direction and you see the fire power we have on both ends of the ice. It was time to change our playstyle and play on our front foot. Alex DeBricnat isn’t a 7 goals in 20 type of player and he’s one of the guys that we want to get going. We aren’t built to be a defensive team.”

Who is coming in as the new HC you may ask?

“We would like to announce we have come to terms with David Quinn on a long term deal to become our new head coach. As an organization we had great talks with David and where he wants to take this team and his ideas on what needs to be changed.”

David Quinn was not available for questions from the media as the team was mid practice session.

Hopefully the entertainment value does go up on the ice in NJ, because it just decreased in the post-game press conferences ;)

Devils hire David Quinn. Tortorella firing sends him to ESPN.
