Flyers Get Ready to Defend the Stanley Cup 2021-12-31 REPEAT ?! Some sections of the Flyers faithful are still celebrating that famous night on 28 July 2021 in Dallas … however GM Tommy Barr has been working hard through the offseason to get his team ready for their defence of the title. The team made a number of moves through the off-season with the following aims : Improving the long term viability of the organisation (Hischier, Luke Hughes, Fabian Lysell) by sacrificing some high end UFA talent (Zibanejad, Voracek) Out: Mika Zibanejad, Jakub Voracek In: Nico Hischier, Jacob Bryson, Luke Hughes, Fabian Lysell, Lukas Reichel Upgrading the defence corps through lateral moves of their depth forwards with the knowledge that guys like Hughes, Zegras and Newhook would be close to making an impact Out: Dylan Strome, Logan Couture In: John Marino, Brady Skjei, Morgan Frost Leverage cap space to improve roster Out: Morgan Frost, Elmer Soderblom, Johnny Kovacevic, Aapeli Rasanen, 2022 5th In: Mats Zuccarello, Reilly Smith, Alex Goligoski (Free agency) The team looks pretty set going into the regular season with strong depth across the board. It has been rumoured that the team will look to upgrade at 2C and the 4th line but those moves will have to wait until there is clarity across the league about who might be a seller. We look forward to the new season and defending the Stanley Cup! Let’s go Flyers!! G. Ritty
