Sabres Playoff Bound!
2021-06-14It’s been a long time coming, but the Buffalo Sabres will be heading to the playoffs, a first under the regime of GM Roberto Martucci. The Sabres had an incredible season, finishing with a record of 52-32-0, good for 3rd in the Atlantic Division. The Sabres were led by young stars Auston Matthews and Kyle Connor, who each broke 100 points and 50 goals, including a record breaking 57 goals for Matthews (also a record breaking 507 shots in the season, the only player to ever break 500 shots in EHE history).
The Buffalo Sabres will face off against the Florida Panthers in their opening round, which kicks off on Tuesday. The Sabres are going to hope for a different outcome than this season, as they went 1-3 against the Panthers. “The Panthers are a great team, they’re well built from top to bottom and we are going to have to play good hockey if we’re going to want to win and advance to the next round” said GM Martucci about the upcoming matchup.
Buffalo doesn’t have much playoff experience, so it will be interesting to see how the players play under the pressure of the post season and see if they rise to the occasion to make a deep playoff run. There aren’t too many people who follow the EHE who will give the Sabres a chance to make a deep run, but it’s not something that Roberto and the Sabres haven’t dealt with before. “I’ve heard my fair share of comments about my strategy and vision for the team and the way I built my roster. I stuck to my plan and it’s paying off. Buffalo in the playoffs was a work in progress, but we’re here and I plan on being here for a while. Let the playoffs begin.”
