Dallas Stars Stand Pat at Deadline

2021-05-10

The Dallas Stars came into deadline week and eventually Deadline Day with many possible outcomes. From standing pat, to making depth additions to even having discussions for many star players including Captain Alex Ovechkin and 3 time Stanley Cup Champion goaltender Carey Price. At the end of the day, GM Bacon decided to stand pat and put the onus to defend the Stanley Cup Championship on this current star studded group.

Bacon had the following to say, "This core has brought us to 2 Stanley Cup Finals since I have been here and I need to put my belief in them and give them the opportunity to win again. Price, Ovechkin, Josi, Monahan, Pastrnak, Burns and Atkinson have been the core of our team for both runs and it's just not time to break them up yet."

Reports surfaced near the deadline that a deal for one depth player fell through and another was traded elsewhere and while adding more depth could always prove beneficial, Bacon and Babcock are confident in the team that has been put together and the way they have played thus far.

The Stars have found themselves in a dogfight in the Central division and to get through the playoffs again will be no easy feat, so to stay with the guys that have been there, done that is something the Stars brass decided to rely on. The leadership and experience of this group could prove to be the difference maker in a playoff series.

In another note, the Dallas Stars have placed a franchise tag on Roman Josi, locking up the anchor of their blueline for years to come. Josi was the fist big splash Bacon made when he came to Dallas and the relationship has been strong and both sides are eager to continue it.

Will not being able to complete a deal leading into the deadline backfire for Dallas? Only time will tell.
