Deadline moves from Winnipeg

2021-05-09

A lot of action in the past fewdays in the Jets organization, with three trades before the trade deadline. Here are the details:

To Chicago:

Logan Couture
David Savard
2022 DP - Round 4 (WPG)
$350,000

To Winnipeg:

Ryan Ellis
Jujhar Khaira
Kevin Lankinen
Dillon Hamaliuk
Damien Giroux

Reasonning: We were looking for a true top pairing dman for a while here in Winnipeg. With De Angelo not playing this year in the NHL and no one int the current team that can take his place in the line up next year, this was a no brainer for us to try getting the services of Ryan Ellis. Logan Couture was the guy we decided to give to acquire a top dman. With the emergence of Ryan Strome, we were confortable to let Couture go away from Winnipeg. For David Savard, we think that was the best moment to move him to maximize the return on him. After the trade, Ryan Ellis has been tagged and will sign a contract extension this summer. We thing he his the kind of guy we could built our defense group for the next few years. The second important asset we acquired in this deal is Kevin Lankinen. With Mike Smith going to free agency this offseason and no goalie ready to play in the pro club, this was important for us to have at least a 1B goalie in the system for next year. Lankinen is a good young goalie but he definitivly need to have more consistency in his performances. This is a kind of risky acquisition, but we are confortable with it. Rest of the deal are smaller pieces, some more good prospects in our system, two guys that could get a chance to battler for a 3rd line spot in the futur.

To Philadelphia:

Calle Jarnkrok

To Winnipeg:

Roni Hirvonen
Logan Stanley

Reasonning: I would probably not have protected Jarnkrok for the expansion draft and i did not want to lose him for nothing because I think that he has some good value. The return I got was what I was looking for. First, I received a young dman, Logan Stanley, 22 years old,  who we think could become a good 4th dman in the futur. He is a big shutdown dman with a good first pass and a heavy shot, some aspects we are looking for in our organisation. With that said, we can already say that we will protect him for the expansion draft because we really like the kind of dman he will became. Next asset is Roni Hirvonen, small two way forward that we were looking to draft last year. H is a long shot as he need to improve his strengh and his skating to get the nex level, but he is a good bet.

To Boston:

Marco Scandella

To Winnipeg:

2022 DP - Round 4 (TB)
2021 DP - Round 6 (BOS)
2021 DP - Round 7 (BOS)

Reasonning: Scandella was UFA this offseason and there were no reason for us to not trade him. At the beginning of the week, other teams offered us a late pick for him so I think I got a really good return for him at the end of the day.
