Andrew Ladd Outburst
2021-05-03Andrew Ladd signed a 3 years, minimum salary contract with the defending Champs this offseason. Ladd thought hanging out with the Dallas team would be a nice "golden parachute contract" for him to be seen off to the sunset. Mentor a few kids, have a few skates during practice and help guide the team during film sessions. Or so he thought.
However, Ladd has been asked to play 18 minutes and 40 seconds up to this point of the season and has begun to voice his displeasure in playing too much.
Ladd had a lengthy conversation with Coach Mike Babcock and reporters overheard screaming and yelling about his bad back and that he was being paid 700k a year for his locker room presence and "intangibles" and why the hell was he ever being inserted into the lineup?
Babcock, ever the pleasant, understanding, players-type coach, told the elderly Ladd to shut the eff up and leave his office or he will see ice time on the top line with Pastrnak and Toews next game, with all the PP and PK time.
Ladd sheepishly left the coach's office and took his seat in the locker room back alongside fellow offseason signee, Ben Street. Street was seen consoling Ladd who was muttering incomprehensible smatterings about playing in the NHL at this point of his career and he just wants to be a part of the team to hang out with the boys.
Ladd voiced to the media through his agent after this outburst that his intent was to sign with Dallas and just ride coattails of the team, lift his 3rd Stanley Cup at the end of the year and be healthy enough to go home and enjoy relations with his smoke show wife, who he has lifted a few more than 3 times. Playing too much like he has been asked was never part of his intent.
This story is sure to continue developing as the season progresses, we will keep an eye on how many more minutes Babcock asks Ladd to play as the season gets to the stretch run.
