Miller Calling It A Career After 2020-21 Season 2021-04-30 One more round for 'Miller Time'. Ryan Miller, the Olympic MVP, Hobey Baker Award, and Vezina Trophy winner announced this week that he would be retiring at the end of the 2020-21 season. Miller has backstopped eight EHE teams since the 2014-15 inaugural season, landing with the Blackhawks this past November in what will be his final season. In 12 games, he's 7-4-1 with a .916 save percentage and 2.60 goals-against average. Miller spoke to the media this morning as he prepares to start for Chicago in their Friday night tilt against the Colorado Avalanche. "I kind of thought this year would be my last year," said Miller, who fought back tears after reflecting on his storied career. "I wanted to take the time to appreciate everything about the game. It's been a good year, I've been able to soak it in. It felt like this was a good way to say goodbye, to enjoy the moment. "Once you're off and into the summer and doing something else, I didn't know if it would be easy to say goodbye. This is going to help." He's been a steadying force for the Hawks this season, backing up Darcy Kuemper and forming one of the best goaltending combos in the EHE. Chicago ranks fifth league-wide in goals allowed during the 2020-21 campaign, thanks in no small part to their tandem between the pipes. "This has been a great time," said Miller. "This year has been special. Hopefully, we can make it even more special and take it all the way. "It would be a great way to ride off into the sunset."
