Visiting The Office Of: Trevor Cook 2021-01-14 I was scrolling through the league archives the other day and I recalled how much I enjoyed Kyle's series "Visiting the office of" so I thought I would carry the torch. No better way to tee it off then to get to know our newest GM. KL: Thanks again for agreeing to do this Trevor! Guess we’ll just jump right into it. This one might be a little long winded but, how long have you been apart of sim hockey, which other leagues have you been apart of, what brought you to the EHE? TC: No problem, glad to be here! It's been a really long time now... there's one league I've been in for what feels like forever, that one is running on a simulator that was written by the original commissioner of the league - I joined a few months after it started, and it's been around for 15 years now. When I first got into sim leagues, I was in a few with the old FHL simulator, but they were all pretty short lived. I was in one or two really early STHS leagues and then basically got out of sim hockey for a while, apart from the one league that I've been in the whole time. I got back into it with EHEC (which is a league run with the freeware Eastside Hockey Manager) about a year and a half ago, and then I came across a post somewhere looking for GMs for BEARD, run by a few of the other GMs here, and saw some references to EHE. I looked into it a bit and really liked what I saw so I applied right away and eventually got in a few months later... I've never been in an NHL re-rate league before (at least, not one that lasted long enough for any re-rates to happen), so pretty excited for that. KL: Wow, so definitely a lot of experience there. Any cups won over the years? Do you consider yourself to be a “build through draft” type or “build through trade” TC: I've won 6 in the one league I've been in for 15 years (full disclosure: that's over ~40 seasons, and it was a 10-team league when I joined, it's now expanded to 20). None in any of the older FHL leagues and obviously pretty new to the other leagues I'm in now. I definitely consider myself to be more of a "build through the draft" type of GM, I tend to like to put a core together and stick with it unless it's obvious that it's not working. KL: So it’s safe to say, you know how to build a winner. With that said, what are your immediate plans for the Bruins / where do you see the team in 2-3 seasons? TC: I hope so! I had a bit of an advantage in that other league in that it was a brand new sim written by the commissioner (who didn't take a team at first) so nobody really knew the tips and tricks for it at first, and now having been involved with it for so long, I probably know it better than almost anyone else who uses it. I don't have that with STHS, definitely starting fresh here so hopefully I can learn by watching a bit and figure out what works. I'll see how the season develops before I know for sure what my plans are right away, but personally, I think I've inherited a pretty good core in Boston, we aren't one of the elite teams but I think we should be a playoff team... and very young, only going to get better. If I do my job I definitely think we've got the pieces to be a contender in 2-3 seasons. KL: Yes, certainly a nice core there in Boston to work around. Well I have to say Trevor, this was extremely insightful and I think our fellow GMs will enjoy hearing about your roots as a sim GM. Thanks so much for your time.
