Bergeron Hits EHE Milestone

2023-05-30

NEW YORK -- Patrice Bergeron of the New York Islanders has become the first EHE player to reach 800 points.

The veteran centre posted two assists on Monday night to hit the milestone against the New York Rangers in Manhattan.

Point 799 came on a penalty kill midway through the third period, as Bergeron set up to Frederick Gaudreau for a shorthanded goal to put the Islanders ahead 2-1.

Number 800 then came in dramatic fashion, with Bergeron dishing to Mitch Marner for the overtime winner after the Rangers had tied the game 2-2 with under four minutes left in regulation.

"He's a special player, and we're lucky to have him," said Islanders Head Coach Mike Sullivan.

"He's really been a difference-maker for us this year."

Orginally selected 53rd overall by the LA Kings in the 2014 EHE Inagural Draft, Bergeron's career has spanned 686 games for the Kings, Edmonton Oilers, Vegas Golden Knights, and Islanders.

In that time, he has amassed 332 goals and 468 assists, currently good for fifth and first overall in the EHE, respectively. He also sits second in powerplay goals (87), fourth in game-winning goals (63), and third in shots on goal (3059).

In 83 playoff games, Bergeron has tallied 35 goals and 48 assists for 83 points (10th all-time).

Notably, Bergeron is also the only player in EHE history to have recorded five 100-point seasons. (The next closest player is Brad Marchand, who has hit the century mark four different times.)

"It's awesome, definitely something I'll look back on and be proud of when my playing days are over," said Bergeron of reaching the 800-point plateau.

"But I'd trade every one of those points for a championship, and that's the only thing we're focused on in here."

The Islanders next game is against the New Jersey Devils in Newark on Wednesday night.
