Coaches Lottery

Post by Kevin » Sun. Feb. 15, 2015 1:59 am

As determined by league vote, coaches would be randomly drawn and assigned to teams for the inaugural EHE season.

The NHL portion of this lottery has now been drawn, with some rather interesting results. Despite being completely random, many of the "top coaches" managed not to be selected until later in the lottery, most notably the highly-sought Mike Babcock. Both teams and coaches were drawn at random during the lottery. The results are as follows:
  • 1) Los Angeles Kings -- Paul MacLean
    2) Montreal Canadiens -- Peter Laviolette
    3) Buffalo Sabres -- Todd Richards
    4) Nashville Predators -- Bill Peters
    5) Arizona Coyotes -- Alain Vigneault
    6) New York Islanders -- Randy Carlyle
    7) Winnipeg Jets -- Darryl Sutter
    8) Pittsburgh Penguins -- Joel Quenneville
    9) Edmonton Oilers -- Patrick Roy
    10) Minnesota Wild -- Craig Berube
    11) Detroit Red Wings -- Mike Yeo
    12) Colorado Avalanche -- John Tortorella
    13) Washington Capitals -- Willie Desjardins
    14) San Jose Sharks -- Bruce Boudreau
    15) Chicago Blackhawks -- Gerard Gallant
    16) Anaheim Ducks -- Dave Tippett
    17) St. Louis Blues -- Paul Maurice
    18) Vancouver Canucks -- Jon Cooper
    19) Columbus Blue Jackets -- Dan Bylsma
    20) New Jersey Devils -- Mike Johnston
    21) Boston Bruins -- Todd McLellan
    22) New York Rangers -- Michel Therrien
    23) Calgary Flames -- Ken Hitchcock
    24) Florida Panthers -- Jack Capuano
    25) Ottawa Senators -- Barry Trotz
    26) Toronto Maple Leafs -- Ted Nolan
    27) Philadelphia Flyers -- Claude Julien
    28) Dallas Stars -- Mike Babcock
    29) Tampa Bay Lightning -- Bob Hartley
    30) Carolina Hurricanes -- Lindy Ruff
...and the drawing for AHL coaches...
  • 1) Carolina Hurricanes -- Jeff Blashill
    2) Tampa Bay Lightning -- John Torchetti
    3) Dallas Stars -- Travis Green
    4) Philadelphia Flyers -- Dean Chynoweth
    5) Toronto Maple Leafs -- Trent Yawney
    6) Ottawa Senators -- Dean Evason
    7) Florida Panthers -- Jeff Daniels
    8) Calgary Flames -- Chadd Cassidy
    9) New York Rangers -- Troy Mann
    10) Boston Bruins -- Brent Thompson
    11) New Jersey Devils -- Keith McCambridge
    12) Columbus Blue Jackets -- Jarrod Skalde
    13) Vancouver Canucks -- Derek Laxdal
    14) St. Louis Blues -- Ted Dent
    15) Anaheim Ducks -- Tom Rowe
    16) Chicago Blackhawks -- Gord Dineen
    17) San Jose Sharks -- Roy Sommer
    18) Washington Capitals -- John Hynes
    19) Colorado Avalanche -- Bruce Cassidy
    20) Detroit Red Wings -- Ken Gernander
    21) Minnesota Wild -- Mike Stothers
    22) Edmonton Oilers -- Jared Bednar
    23) Pittsburgh Penguins -- Luke Richardson
    24) Winnipeg Jets -- John Anderson
    25) New York Islanders -- Ray Edwards
    26) Arizona Coyotes -- Ryan Huska
    27) Nashville Predators -- Brad Larsen
    28) Buffalo Sabres -- Rick Kowalsky
    29) Montreal Canadiens -- Rob Zettler
    30) Los Angeles Kings -- Sylvain Lefebvre
In addition to the random lottery, coaches were also assigned a random term, with salaries based from their given ratings. A full list of coach contracts can be viewed here.
[Note: The scale in which salaries started at was determined from those in real life. I was pretty stunned to find out Joel Quenneville makes $2.75M in reality, with many coaches making over $2M, including Randy Carlyle.]

If you would prefer an available coach over the one you were assigned in the drawing, please e-mail the league regarding your choice. Should more than one team request the same free agent coach during this process, the tie-breaker will be based on the order of the drawing. Regarding changing your AHL coach, please follow the rules about coaches provided in the CBA.

Must say I am pleased with these results getting one of the cheaper contracts as far as coaches go. Just glad I didn't end up with Torts or Yeo.
