2019 EHE DRAFT REVIEW - Atlantic

2019-07-26

Atlantic:

Adam O'Blenes - Boston Bruins:

10th Overall: Dylan Cozens C - Lethbridge Hurricanes (WHL)
20th Overall: Tobias Bjornfot D - Djurgardens IF (SHL)
21st Overall: Philip Tomasino C - Niagara IceDogs (OHL)
79th Overall: Jimmy Schuldt D - St. Cloud State (NCAA)

Last Years Grade: B (League Run)
This Years Grade: B+

This might be a big hot take, but I'm not sold on Cozens. He definately has the tools of a good prospect but he doesn't think the game well and has just been getting by with his speed & strength. Love the rest of the draft though, I had Tomasino high up and Bjornfot looks to have lots of potential.

Roberto Martucci - Buffalo Sabres:

11th Overall: Spencer Knight G - USDP
30th Overall: Ryan Suzuki C - Barrie Colts (OHL)
41st Overall: Jackson LaCombe D - Shattuck St. Mary's (USHS)
53rd Overall: Vladislav Kolyachonok D - Flint Firebirds (OHL)
72nd Overall: Shane Pinto C - Tri-City Storm (USHL)

Last Years Grade: A
This Years Grade: A

We all knew Knight was going in round 1, the surprise was him going 11th. Still Knight is one of the better goalie prospects around and was deserving of an early selection. Suzuki is great value at 30th and everyone was scrambling for a pick when it was noticed Pinto was slipping bigtime. Nice draft Roberto.

Cisco Valle - Detroit Red Wings:

31st Overall: Bobby Brink RW - USDP
62nd Overall: Kaedan Korczak D - Kelowna Rockets (WHL)
93rd Overall: Artemi Kniazev D - Chicoutimi Sagueneens (QMJHL)
115th Overall: Joey Daccord G - Arizona State U (NCAA)
142nd Overall: Alex Campbell C - Victoria Grizzlies (BCHL)
155th Overall: Semyon Chistyakov D - Tolpar UFA (MHL)

Last Years Grade: B+
This Years Grade: B+

I had Bobby Brink really high on my list, so nabbing him at the end of the first is great value. I really like the Kniazev pick too, he looked great in the Q last year. Drafting the NCAA signee Daccord is good value in round 4 too.

Jeff Kuntz - Florida Panthers:

38th Overall: Simon Holmstrom RW - HV71 (SHL)
63rd Overall: Josef Korenar G - San Jose Barracuda (AHL)
99th Overall: Colten Ellis G - Rimouski Oceanic (QMJHL)
105th Overall: Samuel Bolduc D - Blainville-Boisbriand Armada (QMJHL)

Last Years Grade: A (Aleksejs Nikolajenko)
This Years Grade: B-

Picking an AHL goalie in round 3 and then going with another goalie in round 4 is a bit puzzling. Ellis has the higher upside of the two goalies picked though and I'm quite high on him. The rest of Jeff's draft was just pretty good.

Andre Deblois - Montreal Canadiens:

6th Overall: Kirby Dach C - Saskatoon Blades (WHL)
16th Overall: Philip Broberg D - AIK (Allsvenskan)
17th Overall: Peyton Krebs C/LW - Kootenay Ice (WHL)
45th Overall: Yegor Afanasyev W - Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL)
59th Overall: Patrik Puistola W - Tappara (Liiga)
91st Overall: Hugo Alnefelt G - HV71 (SHL U20)
108th Overall: Nico Sturm C - Clarkson U (NCAA)

Last Years Grade: B-
This Years Grade: A

Andre frickin nailed this thing, call the cops because this is armed robbery. Dach falling to 6? how does that happen? Love the back to back Broberg & Krebs picks too, even Afanasyev looks like a good value pick there. Also love the Nico Sturm pick, he might not be dynamic offensively but looks like a solid all around player.

Jameson Fletcher - Ottawa Senators:

23rd Overall: Arthur Kaliyev LW - Hamilton Bulldogs (OHL)
54th Overall: Alex Vlasic D - USDP
83rd Overall: Daniil Misyul D - Lokomotiv Yaroslavl (KHL)
116th Overall: Michal Teply W - Bili Tygri Liberec (Extraliga)

Last Years Grade: A
This Years Grade: B

I think the Kaliyev reach was a good one, dude put up 51 goals & 51 assists last year. I'm also not sure how Vlasic's offense will translate at the next level, but drafting a defensive D at 54th isn't terrible. Teply will join the Ice next year in the WHL and we can compare him closer to his age group and have a better feeling for his potential.

Justin Hill - Tampa Bay Lightning:

55th Overall: Joel Teasdale LW - Rouyn-Noranda Huskies (QMJHL)
61st Overall: Mattias Norlinder D - Modo (Allsvenskan)
80th Overall: Adam Beckman C - Spokane Chiefs (WHL)
86th Overall: Max Cajkovic RW - Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL)
100th Overall: John Farinacci C - Dexter School (USHS)
118th Overall: Yegor Spiridonov C/LW - Stalnye Lisy Magnitogorsk (MHL)
130th Overall: Brett Stapley C - U of Denver (NCAA)
131st Overall: Luka Burzan C - Brandon Wheat Kings (WHL)

Last Years Grade: B+
This Years Grade: B+

A good solid draft again for Justin. Nothing jumps off the page as a steal or amazing value at their positions, but there is tons of upside here. I'm big on Cajkovic, he's been a bright spot on a terrible Sea Dogs squad. Grabbing overager Teasdale at 55th is a good dice roll.

Joe Bubanj - Toronto Maple Leafs:

14th Overall: Victor Soderstrom D - Brynas IF (SHL)
76th Overall: Karl Henriksson C - Frolunda HC (SHL)

Last Years Grade: B-
This Years Grade: C

I'm not high on Soderstrom and feel he was picked high due to being a RHD in the NHL. That said he definately has lots of upside as a PMD, just need to see some offense out of him. He'll get to continue developing in a mens league as he'll be loaned back to Brynas next year.

Andre Deblois

Great read, just like the other divisions. Very happy with how the draft played out and I think I got alot of potential out of this draft. I ended up getting 5 players who were in my personal top 30 rankings. Don't sleep on Patrik Puistola. The Athletic's Corey Pronman had him ranked 19th overall and he should play a huge role for Finland in the upcoming WJC summer showcase.

-vacant- I didn't feel quite as in tune with this draft class as the previous ones. So I was probably sleeping on a few guys.
