Major Moves in Buffalo

2016-06-22

Yesterday was a busy day in Buffalo and for GM Roberto Martucci. Last season the Sabres didn’t really have much going for them. Not only did they finish dead last in the EHE, but they were also jumped in the lottery by the Ducks, Islanders, and Red Wings, which sees them pick 4th overall. While picking 4th is not a bad thing in a draft class where top end talent is apparent in the top 10, but it was a slap in the face to the organization that not only had trouble winning games, but also couldn’t win a lottery.

“It’s definitely hard to swallow, but I’m ready to do what I can with what I can in order to make Buffalo relevant again”. Those were the words of GM Martucci, who was poised to be making some moves this offseason. The only bright spots in Buffalo were its two prized young studs, Jack Eichel and Max Domi. It would also come as a surprise that those were the two guys who were shipped out yesterday. The trade broke down as follows:

TO BUFFALO

ANA 1st Round Pick

Kyle Turris

Jordan Eberle

TO BOSTON

Jack Eichel

Max Domi

It may come as a surprise that these two were moved out, but the return is nothing to scoff at. “I think we got tremendous value coming our way in return for both Jack [Eichel] and Max [Domi]. It was not an easy move to make, and Rob [Prach] and I went back and forth for a while to try to make this work. I was reluctant at first, as I knew those two would be the future of Buffalo, but the offer was something I couldn’t turn down once It was all said and done. While it was hard to deal them both, I am happy to welcome in both Jordan [Eberle] and Kyle [Turris] to Buffalo. Both are fantastic young players who will come in and fill in some needs for us. I look forward to seeing them in a Sabres jersey.”

It is also important to note that the Sabres now hold the 1st and 4th overall selections in the draft, something that Roberto is extremely happy and excited for. “The draft is definitely one of the more exciting times of the year. Especially in Buffalo, as we knew we would be getting a top pick this year, so it’s something we were really looking forward to. I’m glad I’m able to bring in 2 top prospects come July and they shall be the two new prospects which will be the center of Buffalo’s future.” Roberto Martucci did not disclose who he would be selecting on July 24th.

“I would just like to with both Jack and Max the best of luck in Boston. They will have a tremendous career playing in this league and the Bruins have a very good young team that they can flourish with. The Buffalo Sabres are not done making moves. I still have some weaknesses to address and I will attempt to get them patched up throughout the offseason.”
