Killer B's 2022-06-27 As the season came to an end, variations of the same sign could be seen throughout the packed Adirondack Bank Center. Those would be signs sporting the nickname of “Killer B’s” ot “The Killer B’s”, given to the group of Morgan Barron, Emil Bemstrom, Alex Barre-Boulet, and Evan Bouchard. See any similarities…I mean it should be obvious, the 4 players all sharing the same beginning surname initial, B. As the year went on the nickname began to grow in popularity and was bound to stick with how well of a season each of them were having. Barron had this to say when asked about the nickname earlier in the year as it grew in popularity “Haha, it’s a cool thing to see the fans getting behind. Me and the boys have taken a liking to it , we had some shirts made up for just the 4 of us”. “It kind of puts some pressure on us having the nickname, we don’t wanna disappoint and let the fans down after getting a name like that. We gotta deliver and keep it rolling”. Deliver they did. Each player finished the year with a career high in points and some did or were close to breaking Comet single season records. Morgan Barron: 72 GP, 25G 47A 72P Entering the season people didn’t know what to expect from Barron. He was the Devils 2020 3rd round pick, one the organization traded up to make, and was about to make his professional debut this season. For that reason the fans had high hopes for him. After a slow start to the season Barron started to come into his own, shooting his way up to becoming the Comets top scorer and leading the team in assists as a rookie. To add to his outstanding year he surpassed Lucas Sedlak’s 70 points in the 17-18 season to break the franchise record and came close to breaking another record but ended up tied with Isac Lundestrom’s at 47 assists from the 19-20 season. Barron was the 21-22 top scorer, MVP, and Rookie of the Year. Emil Bemstrom: 72 GP, 34G 33A 67P Moving into a bigger role this season Emil Bemstrom was predicted to have a breakout year. With the departures of Troy Terry, Dillon Dube and Isac Lundestrom, he was seen as one player to benefit the most from more ice time and responsibility. He did not disappoint this season in his new role. Surpassing last season by 20 points and breaking the 30 goal mark stood out the most. Bemstrom was a force on the power play as well, leading the team with 11 pp goals. He came close to breaking the season goal record but fell 3 goals short of breaking Lucas Sedlak’s 36 goals set in 17-18. Alex Barre-Boulet: 72 GP, 32G 27A 59P After an interesting off season for Barre-Boulet, he like Bemstrom was looked at to become a focal point of this new regime in Utica and help lead the way. With more ice time this season he showed how valuable he is to the team. Barre-Boulet surpassed the 30 goal mark as well and ended the year with 2 hat tricks, which led the team. An integral part of both the power play and penalty kill, he had 10 pp goals and tied Barron for the team lead in pp points with 21. On the penalty kill he broke the franchise record with 3 shorthanded goals and filled an important role on the pk when Studnicka was injured. Evan Bouchard: 72 GP, 9G 37A 46P Capping off another progressive year in his last AHL season Bouchard finished as the team’s best defenseman, a leader on the defense and line 1 of the powerplay. He was named an alternate captain this season and took that with pride. His impressive +11 this season, while leading the team with 23:02 TOI/G, shows how valuable he is to this team. His 37 assists with Cal Foote created a new single season record for defenseman. Bouchard’s all around game proved to be unplayable and will be a loss next year.
