your players for the season. They are not eligible to traded until next offseason, unless they return to North America before then.

I'll grandfather it in for you but there is very little point in wasting assets to acquire someone who isn't coming back to North America.

I think he's being sarcastic, implying that if activated players cannot be traded because they won't be playing next season, then why would a team trade for a UFA if they won't be a part of their team next season.
I agree that players who are asked to be activated for a season should be able to be traded. Some teams may want to trade for a cheap rental to get some more depth or help solidify their team. Plus, in some cases players may come back from overseas and the acquiring team would then own their rights.
