The way I understand it, he was to be deactivated until we had more news. More news came and Kevin has made a decision based on that. If Byfuglien's to be believed he's no longer contemplating retirement, he's simply injured.
That's not what was said, though.

Dustin Byfuglien's situation is in the realm, though not even related to health. He's taking time off because he's not sure he even wants to play anymore, even though he's under contract. That's a personal matter that transcends the game...What is going on with Byfuglien come out of nowhere but the Jets weren't expecting this to happen any more than his EHE team was. Sometimes it's just a shitty hand. So Byfuglien is hopefully only temporarily deactivated.
That's a definitive statement. That's all we saw, so if there was more discussion on the subject between league officials, we weren't privy to it. That statement was made 3 weeks ago - not three months ago. How can I be faulted for acting on that information? Nothing official has changed regarding Byfuglien and until the Winnipeg Jets or Byfuglien's reps state otherwise, it's all speculation (even if some of it is educated).

So I would dispute "more news came"...and a status given to an EHE player was then changed within three weeks based on that 'news'? Shouldn't it be more official than that? There was no indication given that Byfuglien's EHE status would change based on a reporter's informed opinion - that's all it is at this point.

I'm not upset at trading him - I'm upset, somewhat (relatively, mind you), that a decision seemingly was made and then reversed, based solely on speculation in the hockey media.

This is exactly why these sorts of deactivations should be clearly defined in the CBA. We shouldn’t need to debate stuff like this. If there were clear guidelines written on this then GMs would know what to expect when theses sorts of situations happen. Granted this whole Byfuglien situation is rather unusual so there might still be some confusion, but some rules around this would still help.

So anyway........... You may now begin requesting your three player reactivations, so long as the players are under an existing EHE contract and have not retired.

Article Written on October 09th stating that no matter what Byfuglien is gone, points bolded and underlined....

Yet Kevins post on the forum was Oct 18th....I am not to sure what we are trying to prove here? You said regardless he was not going to be playing for you plain and simple?
Chicago moving on from Dustin Byfuglien
2019-10-09

Thomas Gidlow, general manager of the Chicago Blackhawks, announced today that the team will "move on" from defenseman Dustin Byfuglien after his representation indicated he had asked for a leave of absence from the club.

"We respect Dustin's right to not play and take time away, but we have to make the best decisions we can for our hockey club," stated Gidlow, who refuted reports the Hawks were planning on suspending Byfuglien if he failed to report to training camp next month. "He was to be a big part of what we are doing here, but we will move on and continue towards building a championship team here in Chicago."

Byfuglien's agent, Ben Hankinson, issued a statement earlier today, which included "Dustin's desire to take a step back and re-evaluate his career." When reached via text message for this article, the agent replied, "Dustin is stepping away for personal reasons. We have no further comment at this time."

Byfuglien was acquired from the Anaheim Ducks around last season's trade deadline along with Kyle Clifford and a draft pick. Justin Braun, Calle Rosen, and prospect Nick Caamano were sent the other way. In 15 games with Chicago, he netted 13 points and contributed a goal and assist in five playoff contests.

The news came as a bit of a shock during a fairly quiet period of the EHE offseason. When pressed for specifics, Gidlow simply reiterated his earlier comments, adding "this is not going to play out over the media, that I can say for sure."

Whether Byfuglien is moved in a trade, released, or placed on an ineligible list remains to be seen. Gidlow mentioned a trade possibility but admitted he wasn't sure what sort of return he could expect.

"We would certainly entertain a trade. If something makes sense, we'll look at it. But we have to do what's best for this team. We're open for business and Dustin still has value should he decide to return."

"It just won't be here, unfortunately," Gidlow added.

GMs will also have the right to elect three of their own players on this list to remain active for next season, if they are currently under contract, have not retired, and were not chosen for reactivation last season.
How can I check if my deactivated player is still "currently under contract" if they do not appear on the portal, and is there any way for me to preview what their rating would be to know whether or not it is worthwhile for me to chose to reactivate them?
