2014-15 Player Ratings

Post by Kevin » Mon. Nov. 24, 2014 4:50 am

Alright it's time to open this can of worms! I've posted the player list on the website for this season. As previously explained, the ratings are very similar to the ones provided by LCHV, with minor tweaks. You may view these in spreadsheet format by clicking here. The ratings are seperated into skater and goalie tabs.

You can never please everyone with ratings and sometimes it does seem like certain players are lower than they should be. One thing you will notice is that the defensemen have relatively-low offensive ratings. That is specifically designed to combat how much the simulator LOVES defensive scoring.

I do invite you to post in here or contact me about anyone you think should be reviewed. I don't want general requests that everyone's puckhandling is too low or whatever. I would like requests for changes to individual players. For example, I already noticed after posting these that Cody Kunyk needs to be adjusted. I am particularly looking for changes that should be made in the lesser categories such as Skating and Penalty Shots. Requests to change Scoring, Passing, and Defence probably will result in minimal or no changes because the ratings have already been tested numerous times and had very realistic results. Recommendations about goalie rating changes are also welcome.

I still have to get the player salaries finished but it's 2am here and I'm going to bed. I'll take care of it Monday.

I thought we were using BRHL ratings?

As for these ratings, their mostly accurate, but there are some weird ratings. Example: St.Louis shouldn't be that high, and Tavares shouldn't be that low.

Pretty funny that Brière has a better skating rating than MacKinnon lol... MacKinnon should be top 5, minimum haha. Duchene too probably (He's tied with Brière lol)

Was injured most of the season last year I guess.

I'll be right back up next year though.

I was planning on using BRHL ratings until about mid-July. What I found consistently in test sims was that defensemen were at least 15 of the top 20 league scorers and couldn't get the sim settings adjusted enough to make it believable. If it hadn't been for that, I would have used them, definitely.

These are good recommendations guys. I guarantee that Rinne and Tavares' injuries played a role in their ratings. I'm going to look at everything you've brought up so far!

I use SIMHL ratings for my league and did not have a single complaint when I announced them. In my opinion, the SIMHL ones are the best.

But yeah, if you're going to look it up, I'll just give some names that I think don't have the ratings they should (there's not many, but they're kinda important)

Evgeni Malkin : He's below Pominville and Kunitz on the list.
Ryan Suter : I'm fairly certain he's better than DIon Phaneuf ;)
Duncan Keith : Also a top 5 d in the league. He's below Phaneuf as well...
Erik Karlsson, Alex Pietrangelo and Ryan McDonagh are all very low as well, especially the first two.
Drew Doughty : Fairly certain he's better than Alex Goligoski, or any dman in the league not named Weber in fact.
Daniel Sedin : Should be higher than guys like Troy Brouwer, that's for sure
Kris Letang : MEthot, Jokinen, Zidlicky, Lecavalier are ahead...
Erik Johnson : #1D is below Orpik and Boyle. He's ranked between Matt Cooke and Edler on the overall list.
Vlasic : He's even lower than Erik Johnson
Keith Yandle : Even lower than that
Cam Fowler : #1D, same overall as John Mitchell and Mark Letestu...
Shattenkirk : He's even lower than that.
Tarasenko : Right there with Lars Eller, Umberger and Killorn. Would make a great 3rd line winger maybe
Braun : Top pairing D sitting between Max Talbot and Mike Weaver...
Alzner and Myers are right there too...
Granlund, Gallagher and Trouba are very low too. Same with Dekeyser and Tanev.
Monahan, Scheifele, Nino and Kreider aren't NHLers, same with Bjugstad and Hamilton... Add Coyle, H. Lindholm, Galchenyuk, Krug, Girgensons, Jenner, Murray, Barkov, Vatanen and Maatta to this list.

It just feels like those are ratings from 2 years ago. All the young guys that broke out last year suck badly. If we're going to go with this, my lists will change drastically, which is fine. I just want to know what the plan is regarding those guys that are franchise cornerstones for their teams for the most part.
