I would prefer to see the Entry Draft be 7 rounds as I too like to build on the draft and I have found some gems in the late rounds.

Owen wrote: The 2015 draft will be a special one for our league because not only will it be an extremely deep draft class, headlined by Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel, but it will also include the 2014 draft class. This was intentionally done to bolster the first round. It off-sets how lopsided it could potentially be if an already-well-built team managed to draft McDavid and make their team practically invincible.
Also, because this draft would have twice the usual number of players in its pool, a 7-round format is being considered for this particular draft. For now, it is still set as a 5-round draft. Your thoughts on whether we should hold a 5- or 7-round draft for Summer 2015 are welcome.
I was wondering if there may need to be two drafts this year. A dispersal draft and an entry draft.

The dispersal draft are for players who are NOT eligible for the Calder cup, while the entry draft are only eligible if they qualify as a rookie for the Calder cup.

In the sim when you set the rounds of the draft, it applies to every year. You can't custom edit which and what years have 7 rounds, and others have 5. I don't know if this could be a bit of an issue or not.

It can't be pre-programmed, but you certainly can edit the number of picks in a draft at any time. Future 6th and 7th round picks would appear only during the first season, if turned on. They would disappear once I switched the format back to a 5-round draft at season's end.

This is the truth.

Commish.... we shouldn't mess up the entry draft by combining 2 classes, and we certainly shouldn't make it 5 rounds!!

If you are using Bryce's ratings packs, the guys we would be selecting would not be on that ratings pack!!! You have to leave the entry draft until the following year (2014 class after this first season, 2015 class after the following season) if things are going to line up with those ratings....

And if you use 5 rounds instead of 7 that's 60 guys per year less than the NHL with an extra year to scout them every year..... which means we are going to have bare bones prospect lists and farms and really run into issues....

Just saying, if you are going by his ratings packs, then it would be a nightmare if not impossible to deviate from those tried and tested methods...

All of you guys have good points for the 7 round draft but im still not convinced. If you really think that there will be great prospects left in late rounds (im sure they will), why dont you trade for them during the regular season? It just going to create more league activities.

If we go with 7 rounds for just the first year, how do we calculate the new players salaries when their contract ends? If we go with a chart in relation with where they were picked...

What exactly is the point of a 5 round draft here exactly???

U guys must have never run a league because IF WE DONT GO WITH A 7 ROUND DRAFT, THERE WILL BE MAJOR ISSUES AND HEADACHES

Don't say I didn't warn you....

seriously though why the arbitrary number at 5 rounds???? Why not 3 rounds?? Or 2??? Its just silly to deviate from the NHL, as well as the league that we are getting the ratings packs from....

I seriously don't mind 7 round drafts either. I have enough knowledge about the kids to draft some kid I want in my prospect pool.

as for merging the 2014 and 2015 draft in a 7 round draft, I think it's going to let a lot of great kids available. How will we be able to get those kids?
