2017 Revenue Sharing

Post by Kevin » Tue. Jul. 04, 2017 1:38 am

A little late here but the revenue sharing function has been run on the simulator. The reason we do this is to balance out several factors in the game, including excess income earned by hovering just above the salary floor, significant income advantages from extended playoff runs, and arena capacity issues, as well as how much a GM spends.

Overall league income grew nearly 50% from around $630 million to over $940 million this year, pre-bonuses, mostly because of increases to the ticket price system that GMs who paid attention to the announcements at the beginning of the season took advantage of. As a result, there is a much larger disparity than usual for this year's revenue sharing.

This does not mean that teams lose all advantages they have created for themselves by building a winning team, a financially-efficient team, or properly structuring their ticket prices. Funds exchanged through revenue sharing represent a small fraction of what teams have earned through additional sources.

(Note: Revenue sharing does not factor in bonuses awarded to teams for various accomplishments, which are added in afterward. Also, the expansion Golden Knights were not involved with this year's revenue sharing, as they had no season income to share and already received a portion of the cash that Doug Waite earned as GM of the Sharks.)

Here is the league breakdown of funds added or removed from team bankrolls:

Ducks - subtracted $1,893,441 to bankroll
Coyotes - added $1,553,844 to bankroll

Ouch, losing nearly 2million is never good. Better pull a Nashville and bring in the good old local singers. Teri Clarke, Chad Kroeger, Ian Tyson are you guys able to perform for us. We will get you into the Stampede grounds for free.
