Kicking off the 2017 Offseason

Post by Kevin » Mon. Jun. 19, 2017 6:00 am

We approaching the start of what easily will be the craziest offseason we have ever had! You have all had a couple of months now to figure out who you will protect and expose for the upcoming Expansion Draft. It is now official that your lists must be emailed to the league ([email protected]) before 5pm ET on Sunday, June 25th. The Expansion Draft Rules bulletin has been updated with this information and other tweaks that we made since first being posted last August.

Please use CapFriendly's Expansion Draft tool to look up whether your players are exempt or must be protected. Also remember that your Franchise Players must be protected in the draft, unless their contracts have expired and you are waiving your right to re-sign them in this offseason. I will help anyone with compiling their draft lists, if I am asked. If any lists are found to be invalid, you will be notified and given until Sunday's deadline to correct the issue(s). Anyone who does not submit a list will be subject to termination from the league.

Many of you already have trades you are ready to post. The current trade freeze will be lifted Thursday at 9am ET. Once you submit your expansion list, it is assumed that you have no additional transactions to make. Your roster will be frozen and you will not be permitted to trade with any other existing team until after the Expansion Draft has taken place! However, you may conduct trades with the Vegas Golden Knights regarding compensation for not selecting certain players in the Expansion Draft at any time after the trade freeze is lifted, both before and after you submit your lists.

Vegas will then choose their selections and may submit their final list at any time over the next several days. After the Expansion Draft results are announced, trading will once again re-open for all 31 EHE clubs.

Around this time, or potentially shortly afterward, the EHE site will need to go offline for a day so that it may be converted over to the new database I have been building. You will be notified of exactly when that will start, although I might take advantage of the July 4th American holiday to do that.

Once we are clear of the Expansion Draft chaos, the annual coach contract extension "lottery" will take place. Currently, there is no definitive plan as to when coach re-signs will actually take place and it may potentially be after the Entry Draft.

Today was a fantastic day for the Elite Hockey Experience. After 11 hours of work, the site has now been fully-adapted to the new database that was installed late Monday night. I hadn't anticipated finishing that until Friday night or Saturday. I was even able to resolve two issues that have occurred since before EHE began, where the coach pages had broken images where their team logos should have been, and improper uploading of team faceoff stats.

I'm aware that there are still a couple of issues to resolve. Your farm team rosters show ALL available head coaches for the time being. This is caused by a major rewriting of the coach database that I have been working on. Also, while overhauling the prospects database, I've managed to break the coding that shows their draft data (that I originally added only a few months ago). Most notably though, I cannot update the players database temporarily. I am awaiting a response from another coder as to what I did wrong. This is why your rosters don't fully reflect your trades from the past week.

Still, a lot was accomplished today from the inside and I can now focus on implementing new features. Plus, just hours ago, LCHV released their seasonal ratings pack, so I can get going on that some time soon (after I work on my draft list)!

If you experience any issues with the website, please post in the Site Reporting thread so that it can be looked into!
