2016 Free Agency: RFA Signing

Today we will begin the window for tendering offers to your restricted free agents and for submitting an offer sheet to an RFA of another team, if you wish.

You may view a complete list of restricted free agents (by team) at the following link:
http://www.elitehockeysim.com/File/2016 ... 7-RFA.html

The amount listed is the salary the players earned last season. You will need to review the CBA to determine whether the minimum you need to raise a player's contract is 10% or the Fair Market Value (FMV). Unlike entry-level contracts and UFA signing, the ONLY way that you can lower a player's base salary through signing bonuses is if the FMV would give the player more than a 10% raise over last season's salary. In other words, an RFA's minimum base salary must always be at least 10% above their previous salary, regardless of signing bonus scenarios.

When you are ready to submit your RFA contract offers, you must use the sim client software, through the free agents button on your team overview. After you have input your offers, you must save your team file and upload it to the league server in order to complete the signings.

Unlike last offseason, you will not need to use the RFA spreadsheet to find the Total Contract Value of your offers! However, it will be used on my own end only if another GM has submitted an offer sheet to a player to verify that the offer sheet holds a higher value than what the rights-holding team offered. It is listed here, only as proof of fairness. Again, you will not need to use it this year!

Offer sheets must be submitted no later than 11:59pm EDT on Thursday, September 22. Until then, no RFA offers will be posted to the site.

Any players who are not tendered a contract offer on or before 11:59pm EDT on Friday, September 23 will become unrestricted free agents.

Not entirely sure if we're following the NHL in terms of contract length, but could someone tell me what the maximum length of term that can be offered to a player? I can't seem to find it anywhere in the CBA.

I really can't believe that but you're right. It's not lol. The maximum term is 4 years.

In a way I was kind of hoping I would be wrong and I was just too tired to have seen it, but even when I used ctrl + f to try and locate it I really couldn't find it. You might want to consider adding that to the CBA though ;)

That's funny cause I spent forever looking for it myself yesterday lol! I eventually went back to some of the guys I signed last year knowing who I would have signed to a max deal and saw the 3 years left giving me my answer :)

I just assumed 4 was the max...apparently completely unfounded. Glad it worked out.

I figured out a way to let everyone know if the RFA offers they submitted are valid:
  • -The list now says 'Tendered' next to all players who have received a qualifying offer.
  • -If it says 'RFA,' it means that you have not submitted a valid offer.
  • -Of course, 'Not Tendered' means that no offer was submitted when you sent in your file and will become UFA if you choose not to submit one.

The following players were signed to offer sheets. Their team GMs have been notified of the details of the offer sheet, their right to match and option for compensation.

Zemgus Girgensons - by NYR - MATCHED by CBJ
Conor Sheary - by NYR - MATCHED by AZ
Cody Ceci - by NYR - MATCHED by OTT
Alex Galchenyuk - by EDM - MATCHED by BOS
Jacob Trouba - by TOR - MATCHED by EDM
Ryan Murray - multiple teams, highest by CAR - MATCHED by NYR
Hampus Lindholm - multiple teams, highest by ANA - MATCHED by FLA

There are a few other offer sheets that have been sent to players on teams who have not yet sent in their RFA offers. Should those players not be re-signed, they will become unrestricted free agents (regardless of the offer sheet sent) without the right to compensation.

There were also a couple of offer sheets which were rejected, either because the terms were invalid or because you cannot use the same compensation options for multiple offer sheets.
