2022 Preseason

Training camp is beginning! All players were moved to your NHL rosters on Thursday night in preparation of preseason games.

We will start a condensed preseason schedule on Monday, December 19! I'd hoped to start games on Saturday but that was going to be just too soon and I don't even have the schedule built until Friday overnight.

Each team will have four NHL preseason games and two AHL preseason games. The AHL games will begin after Christmas, on Tuesday, December 27.

Just like last year, though it's not ideal that we are starting this late, the bright side is that not being held accountable for setting valid lineups during preseason (roster issues must always be addressed though!) coincides well with the upcoming holidays!

GMs are encouraged to goof around with their lineups and experiment with different combinations, just as a real team would during the preseason. Many teams were out of compliance on opening night last year because they blew off the preseason. Use it as a learning experience and a refresher for what is and is not allowed!

Plus please remember that even though only roster deadlines are enforced in preseason, not doing your lineups means that I have to do them for you. That is very frustrating. I'd rather use that time to focus on other league matters. There are a few teams who inexplicably still do not have enough players to meet the league minimum or ice an AHL roster. If I have to sign players for you, you will not be happy about it!

All injuries and suspensions incurred during the preseason do carry over into the regular season. There is one suspension which will carry over from last season but suspended players will be available for you to use during the preseason.

All players are now officially considered as "in training camp" with their NHL clubs. You may reassign players to the AHL as you wish, but you MUST be able to dress a full 20-man farm lineup before your first AHL game. That essentially means before Monday, December 26. If you have players that you plan to send down for the AHL preseason who must clear through waivers first, please do this before Christmas so that they will be eligible to play these games if they are not claimed!!

In addition and as always, remember to copy your rosters to the future days, especially when you reassign players!! If you send a player down through waivers on Day 1 in the sim client, he clears waivers, but then he is called up on one of the future days, he will have to clear waivers again if you send him back down!

One more note about waivers. We transitioned back to the two-day "in-season" waiver period Thursday, so the players who had already been on waivers for more than that were assigned to the leading claims. Friday is/was a processing night for waivers. However, Saturday (as usual) will not be a processing night for it. The next update will be Sunday night.

I don't know why I always forget to state this every year... The holiday roster freeze is coming up very soon! I encourage everyone to take time away from being a manager for a couple days and just enjoy the times. Especially after a frenetic month of signing players and the anguish of losing half of them on waivers immediately to the Canadiens.

The trade/waiver freeze will last from 10pm ET on December 23 thru 8am ET on December 27. Anyone placed on waivers on December 22 and 23 will not clear until December 27. Likewise, if you place any players on waivers during the break, their waiver period will not begin until December 27 and would not potentially clear until December 29.

If you need to send players down through waivers to meet roster requirements for your first AHL preseason game, you need to be transact this prior to the freeze! Otherwise, you'll need to find other ways of filling out your AHL roster by that time!

Also remember that injured players DO continue to heal during this time!

I do want to mention that Tuesday's sim will be late. Probably 12am ET. Even if I get home around 11pm ET, I'm expecting to have to check for a lot of things since it's the start of the AHL preseason schedule.
