Last season, we kept the minimum salary floor level at $27 million to complement certain teams' Inaugual Draft strategies that left them with lower payrolls than most. With our first summer of free agency coming, there is no excuse for not being able to meet a salary floor more in line with what most EHE teams follow.
Therefore, it should come to no one's surprise that the salary floor for the 2015-16 EHE season will be $37.5 million.
As far as the EHE salary cap goes, there is no official number just yet. Expect a small increase.
2015-16 Salary Cap & Floor Levels
Re: 2015-16 Salary Cap & Floor Levels
Some advice to the teams that are currently projected to be under next season's salary floor -- do not wait for unrestricted free agency to try to get compliant!! The crop of UFAs this summer is very small and you don't want to put yourself in an even worse position by making free agent fringe players as your highest-paid, making them untradeable. If you planned properly, you will have several restricted free agents this off-season that you can re-sign for much more than the 10% minimum increase or FMV.
Additionally, the reason why the salary floor has been set for $37.5 million instead of $40 million is because I want to see how retirements could affect some teams. However, the salary floor will almost certainly rise again in 2016-17.
Simply put, you should always be at least $5 million above the salary floor because you never know who might retire instantly and you should also give yourself enough leeway to make trades.
