With the announcement earlier in the week regarding Mike Fisher coming out of retirement, I needed to focus some time to decide how to reintegrate him into the EHE. We have never had a player of this magnitude reactivate as an unrestricted free agent before! After deliberating over this (wish I could have gotten this info out last night!), Fisher is entering the free agent pool immediately, although will not actually activate until he signs in real life and a return date is announced.
Here are the special rules for how Fisher will be signed to the highest bidder:
- Anyone who wishes to make an offer for Fisher may do so by submitting through the sim client. (The free agency e-mail address is not active during the season!)
- Only one-year, one-way contract offers will be permitted. Anyone who offers more than a one-year contract will be automatically disqualified from making further offers for Fisher this season.
- This does mean that since we're past the 45-day threshold, Fisher can be signed to whichever salary terms you prefer, although there is presumably no chance that he will only get offers far below fair market value.
- Unlike typical one-year offers, the maximum signing bonus permitted may only be 25% of the base salary offered.
- The base salary paid to Fisher this season will NOT be prorated! If you give him $3,000,000 in base salary, you will pay him $3,000,000 regardless of what date he is added to your roster.
- If Fisher decides to retire again before the season ends, you will not pay out the remaining portion of his salary.
- The team who ultimately signs Fisher will NOT be permitted to trade him for the duration of the contract.
- Fisher is only coming out of retirement to try and win a Stanley Cup. There would be no point to him signing with a team that is well out of the playoff picture. So hey, now we finally found a bass-ackwards way to implement our first no-trade clause in league history!
- If the team that signs Fisher waives him for any reason, that team will be penalized 50% of his total base salary. This will not have any financial impact on the team that claims him.

Not surprisingly, multiple offers were made today for Fisher. The top offer has a CCV of 3,624,844.

Damn, if I had known Mike Fisher would do this, I would have created cap space, but unfortunately the team he SHOULD play for doesn't have the room for him. BOOOOOOOO!!!!

That's why it's always good to have ample space at the ready.

Well realistically I can sign him for like 20 million but something tells me he might not want to play in the big STL so I would feel bad if I stole him from you

Because he won't activate right away, any roster moves that may need to happen would not need to take place until he's on the active roster, correct?

Personally, as I am not in the game(

), and I can not wait to see how this turns out. I just hope the right team, maybe one with $26,125,000 in cap space can use this to their advantage.....

That's correct. He would not count towards your active roster total until activated. However, it's exactly as Jameson alluded to, you're still paying him like any other IR player would be. If a team goes over the salary cap by signing him, they only have til the following day's sim to make those adjustments or else that contract is voided.

I'll believe it when I see it.
