2023 Free Agency: UFA Signing

The plan is that the open market to sign unrestricted free agents will begin on Saturday, December 30! For this portion of free agency, please refer to the list provided on the website, NOT anything shown on the sim client.

Please watch our old UFA tutorial video for instructions of how to use the UFA calculation spreadsheet. The dynamics of this calculator create more fair grounds to sign players instead of always resolving to submit a maximum 4-year term in order to sign a player. If you experience an issue where you are unable to edit the spreadsheet, please contact me immediately. You must use this spreadsheet to determine with calculated contract value to use when submitting your offer!

All UFAs require that you pay a minimum yearly amount equal to or greater than the Fair Market Value salary, though similar to Entry-Level Contracts, you may use a signing bonus to lower a player's yearly base salary to be lower than FMV. For more information regarding the maximum signing bonus you may give, please refer to the CBA.

After the end of each day (9:59 PM PDT, excluding Saturdays), the highest offers for any player will be reviewed and then posted to our website. If the same high offer is on the board for two consecutive days (excluding Saturdays), the player will be signed. Additionally, there will be a random 5% chance that a player will accept the highest offer given to them immediately at the end of that day. If you wish to submit a raise on the highest posted offer, the calculated contract value must increase at least 10% for the new offer to be valid.

NEW PROCEDURE!!!
Tommy has created a new method to submit your UFA offers this year. It's kind of a hybrid of the email method we've always used and what I always wanted to build into the website. This should not only make for fewer mistakes in your submissions but also will be easier for me to keep track of them. In theory, this should mean I can keep a better eye on invalid offers!

Please use this new Google form to submit an offer!

You must include the calculated contract value, term, salary, signing bonus, and contract type for an offer to be valid! If any of this information is missing, your offer will be considered as voided!

You will receive an email notification with the details of any offer that you submit.

Any corrections you need to make must be done on the same processing day or your offer will be considered as-is. If you need to make a correction, please complete a new offer with ***CORRECTION*** written AFTER the player name!

Once a UFA has ACCEPTED your offer, please use the sim client to sign him to the new contract.


Reminders:
*You may not trade a recently-signed unrestricted free agent until after your 20th regular season game has been completed!
*You may not submit an NHL or two-way contract offer if you have the maximum 51 total active players on your roster at any time.
*You may not submit an NHL or two-way contract offer to a UFA goaltender if you already have 6 or more goalies on your active roster, with the exception of signing one goalie to an AHL contract.


The first processing night will be Sunday night, New Year's Eve! Expect that results will be post very, very late, since there will be a lot to go through.

Presently, you may submit early-bird "Day 0" offers for your own Unrestricted Free Agents. Keep in mind that even though you would be potentially re-signing your own player, they still fall subject to the rule that you may not trade a recently-signed unrestricted free agent until after your 20th regular season game has been completed. The latest these may be submitted will be 11:59pm EDT on Saturday, December 30.

Any valid "Day 0" offers submitted will go into a blind queue. If your offer is the highest at the end of Day 1 of the UFA open market period, the player will sign with your team outright.

Also, if you would like to submit any test offers before the open market begins on Sunday, please type the word **TEST** in front of the player name. I recommend in your test offer that you choose any active player from your own EHE organization, not someone you actually want to sign in free agency. I can then let you know if your offer is valid or discuss with you why it is not.

Please send any test offers before the same cutoff as Day 0 offers. I probably won't get around to responding to any test offers until Saturday though.

As of this morning, you may now submit offers for any unrestricted free agents! The first processing will be tomorrow night. I'll also spend some time today to review any test or Day 0 offers sent in so far.

This is a very early heads up but Tuesday night's UFA processing will occur very late. My hockey game was moved and I won't be around at the cutoff, which still takes place at 9:59pm PST. Since I won't be around til like midnight or later, I'll probably just run 5% after processing without a live Discord session in order to get the results finished and posted as quickly as possible.

Now that UFA signing appears to have ceased (even though I still see teams needing to sign players to simply hit the required minimum), let's transition over to in-season signing with the pre-season having begun. Please send in all free agent offers through the sim client. If you cannot send in through the sim client, such as with minor league contracts, please send an email to the league (but shoot me a DM so that I know to check the email for it).
