Avalanche Year In Review
2017-06-25With a deep breath and a sip of beer Gm Lycar had this to say to reporters in an impromptu presser from his office at the Pepsi Centre in Colorado "Wow, what a ride!"
"My first year in the league couldn't have gone any better, yeah we fell 4 games short of our ultimate goal but that is hockey, that is life. Congrats to Jameson Fletcher and those pesky sens."
The Avs made a couple of moves post trade freeze moving out rearguard Kevin Shattenkirk, "this was a move we felt as an organization had to be made, Kevin was entering the final year of his contract and is set to become a UFA next summer, we get back a d man in Sbisa that is a controllable asset, a right winger in Ty Rattie who helps fill our lack of organizational depth on the right side and a 3rd round draft pick to help replenish our propspect pool." GM Lycar remains optimistic for the future of the Avs, stating that he expects Colorado to be a perennial contender "We are losing a couple guys here to free agency, and we will lose more next summer. But with Tavares and Scheif locked up long term up the middle we have an extremely solid foundation to continually lay more bricks each year until we finally get our hands on that cup."
Highlights from Lycar's first year in the league include:
- Coming back down 3 - 1 in the series to Harald and team Scandanvia. HANDS UP HARALD!
- Trading my first round pick this year for Kevin Bieksa, who was a healthy scratch for me most nights throughout the playoffs! (who needs the 30th pick anyways) hey if Ryan Reaves is worth a first round pick, anybody is!!!
Honestly it has been a treat to learn from the great gms in this league, my first year of being a GM has been a blast. Hands down best Sim League on the planet, no doubt! On top of that you guys make it so much fun to be apart of! Thanks for welcoming me into your league fellas.
For Lycar, the youngest GM in the league (who happens to have finally hit 20 years of age today) it's time to sit back crack another cold one, enjoy summer and find a way to win those last 4 games of the season next June.
