Pettersson, Elias Pettersson

2020-03-14

In the summer of 2017 and as new GM of the Calgary Flames, GM Steve wanted to make a statement at the EHE Entry Draft. The 2017 draft saw GM Steve make 4 picks in the top 10. Picks 4, 5 and 6 to go along with pick 10.

At pick 5, which was acquired from the Dallas Stars in a deal that involved Ryan Johansen going to Dallas, GM Steve selected Elias Pettersson. Pettersson was a young boy from Ange Sweden. Word on the street is that teams weren’t looking at Pettersson so early had they had the opportunity to draft at 5. Currently Elias is off with a broken left foot but before his injury he had put up 20 points in 29 games while playing an average of 16:33 minutes per game in his first season in the EHE.  Before tonight’s game against the Hawks, Petterson passed along that he was feeling he was around 85% and it didn’t take much to get a statement from him.

“I can’t wait to get back on the ice with the guys. Being off for the past while has been challenging. I am proud of what the guys have been doing, and to not be a part of the battle for the playoffs…well let’s say has been frustrating.”

When asked Pettersson described himself as a talent playmaking forward who can do a little of everything. Here is to seeing Pettersson back in a Flames jersey soon and helping the team push forward.
