Bye Bye Marleau, Marleau on waivers

Late last night the Calgary Flames made the decision and notified Patrick Marleau that he would be bought out if he clears waivers. After acquiring him from the Pittsburg Penguins earlier this season, Marleau has played in 15 games with the Flames, registering just 1 assist and was a -12. Marleau was played throughout the line up to give him every opportunity to find his game.  With a 7 million dollar contract more was expected but with the Flames going into a bad slump of inconsistent games after he arrived in town and losses piling up it was time to move on.

With Marleau being bought out the Flames became active on the waiver wire and picked up defenseman Slater Koekkoek. Koekkoek adds some depth to the defense while allowing Brendan Smith to slide into the bottom 6.
