Michaud's first presser as Avalanche general manager

2014-12-02

The Colorado Avalanche seemed nervous as he first met with the Colorado medias this afternoon. Of course, he was right to be nervous, since his plan may not make fans happy on the short term.

''Hello everyone, it's a pleasure and an honor to be here today with you and to be a part of this organisation that I've loved since I was a young kid. I'm not here to talk about myself today though. I'm here because I want to share the vision I have for this club. I firmly believe that, when starting from scratch, you shouldn't be in a hurry to win with your team. My vision is that I will draft the players that I feel are going to be the best in a few years. I'm going to draft the assets that are the most valuable to a team longterm. The goal for this franchise isn't to draft all the best players available to get a cup next year. To be honest with you, we're looking at a much bigger picture. We want to be a dynasty. It may take some time, but we believe in building and managing assets and taking players that may not be ready to be elite, but that have the potential to be great for this franchise.''

We can expect a young roster for this Colorado Avalanche team it seems. They are drafting 3rd overall in the first round.

Adrian Dater: Who are you looking to draft in the first round?

''Surely, looking at young guys like Steven Stamkos or John Tavares is interesting. We believe building through center ice is the best way to build a franchise. A franchise centerman is a major piece and we're lucky to be drafting so high to get one right off the bat.''

Adrian Dater: Shouldn't you guys draft Ryan O'Reilly?

''I'm not going to deal with your nonsense, Adrian.''

And then the new Avalanche general manager left the building, leaving Dater in tears.
