2019-20 Salary Cap & Floor Levels

Post by Kevin » Sat. Jul. 20, 2019 8:15 pm

I have preliminary salary cap & floor levels for you for the 2019-20 season! I've been aiming for a cap around this number and after comparing the math to the NHL, I was almost dead on with my estimations.

It is expected that the salary cap will rise to $73.1 million.

The salary floor will also rise and is expected to be $46.5 million. Everyone was at above $50 million last year thanks to a lucrative free agency period so there is no reason to fall below this mark.

Again, these numbers are still unconfirmed but you can expect these to be the minimum, with a slight chance that they might actually be higher.

You should always be at least $5 million above the salary floor to guard against who might retire instantly and to give yourself enough leeway to make trades. Do not wait for unrestricted free agency to try to get compliant with the floor! Signing depth players to big money just to reach the floor is a good way of getting yourself into even worse trouble next offseason!
